FAQ

Can both eyes be treated during the same procedure?

Yes. Refractive errors of both eyes can be treated with just one visit to our clinic. Treating eyes separately prolongs the recovery process and it takes more time. Most patients find it more convenient when both eyes are corrected at the same time.

What will I feel during the surgery?

During the LASIK-procedure the eye is sedated. You might feel some pressure, but it’s very mild. You might experience very little discomfort in the course of the procedure. After LASIK-surgery you can feel certain irritation in the eye for up to 24 hours.

How is the operation done?

Excimer laser is used for treatment. The cold rays of the laser beam vaporizes the tissue of the cornea, changing the shape of the surface and enabling the patient to see clearly without the help of glasses or contact lenses. Sedatives are used in the form of drops. No needles are used during the operation.

How long does the operation last?

Procedure itself lasts for only a few minutes, of which the laser is in use for only couple of seconds. Preparations for the operation are done in the clinic on the day of the treatment (checking once again the eyes etc) and it’s done just 30 minutes before the operation.

Does the operation hurt?

The procedure itself is painless! During the LASIK-procedure you might feel some pressure and 24 hours after the operation there could be some discomfort or irritation. To alleviate post-operation discomfort we give patients some eye drops.

When can I get back to my normal activities?

Functional vision returns usually in the first 24-48 hours after the operation, but the vision might temporarily stay blurry. We recommend not returning to work for at least one day.

Is it possible to become blind during laser surgery?

No, certainly not.

Can you drive a car after operation?

You cannot drive a car on the day of the operation. To avoid driving after treatment, the KSA Eye Centre offers its customers a free taxi drive home.

What happens to my eye sight in the future?

After corrective treatment it should remain as such. Studies have shown that the results of the operation don’t diminish in time. Very few patients need additional treatment. Mostly because of the individual process of healing and the correction achieved during the initial operation. Patients with deeper refractive error are likely to require additional treatment. One problem that we cannot fix is the need for reading glasses (presbyopia). Presbyopia is part of your eye’s ageing process. Laser surgery can’t change the course of natural processes.

Can my initial vision recur after the operation?

Some patients experience the deterioration of post-operation effect, but not to the extent of the vision quality prior the operation. If needed to improve the vision, minor corrections or additional treatments can be done. 98% of patients don’t need any.

What are the side effects of LASIK-procedure?

The most common side effects are sensitivity to light and halos. There could be some under- or over corrections and for perfect vision you could still need glasses even after the operation.

What are the risks?

It’s vital to know that possible risks of vision complications in the entire field is smaller than 1% and problems arising from operations done by eye optometrists is less than 0,1%.

We believe that informing the patient about all possible risks is part of the treatment. If you have additional question concerning risks, please ask, because it’s about YOUR eyes. Contact us by e-mail info@ksa.ee or calling +372 644 5060
